Yale was founded in 1844 in Connecticut. Linus Yale Jr. founded the company to manufacture cylinder locks, which he invented. Yale eventually became a pioneer in specialized fork trucks, and in 1989 the company merged with Hyster to form Hyster-Yale.
Hyster Forklift has roots dating back to 1929 when the Willamette Ersted Company was founded in Portland, OR. The company created its first forklift truck in 1935, and its name was changed to Hyster in 1944.
